Message from H.E, Dr Kate O’Shaughnessy, Australian High Commissioner to Mauritius

Virtual interaction will remain the only option for engagement with the Australian business community in 2021.  Australian borders are closed except for Australian citizens and permanent residents. In addition, incoming passenger arrivals are restricted to around 6000 passengers per week.  This means flights to Australia are extremely difficult to secure, as Australians around the world seek to secure tickets via the major Middle Eastern hubs, primarily Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha.

For those in the business community here in Mauritius who do hold Australian citizenship or a permanent resident visa, the latest advice on travel to Australia is available in the links are below.  If you do succeed in securing a flight to Australia, please be aware that you’ll need to produce evidence of a negative PCR test no more than 72 hours prior to departure.  Masks are mandatory throughout the flight, and in all airports in Australia. 14-days hotel quarantine is mandatory in your first port of arrival, managed by Australian state and territory governments.

If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident in Mauritius seeking to return home, we also encourage you to register on our COVID-portal, or contact the Australian High Commission in Port Louis (ahc.portlouis@dfat.gov.au) for further advice.

Dr Kate O’Shaughnessy

Australian High Commissioner to Mauritius
